Marathon training is going slow but progressing. Having some knee
pain but other than that have been fairly healthy so far in the
training. Not losing weight though so I need to do something about that.
I know my running will improve if I can drop some pounds.
During
my training, I have completed 2 races. Both were 5k's with another 5-6
miles to run after. Realized after the 2nd time, this probably isn't a
good strategy so if I do any more races prior to Marine Corps Marathon, I
won't be trying to complete my long run on the same day. I am running
the Patriots Run on 9/11 but that will be my long run for the week and I
hope to put in a good effort on that day as a gage to see where I am at
in prep for the MCM. Ran the Will You Walk With Me For Suicide
Prevention 5k on 6/29/19. It was terribly hot (had been all week) and I
ran really slow knowing I needed to do another 5 miles after. The
Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5k went a little better. I hadn't
intended to push but apparently did the first mile as it's the fastest
mile I have completed in a while (11:04). Ended up slowing quite a bit
the 3rd mile but was overall happy with the run especially knowing I had
6 more miles to go after. Those 6 miles hurt and were much slower than
the 5k pace. Oh well, lesson learned. I enjoy the Spencer C Duncan Make
It Count 5k. It's for a great cause. I've completed it 3 out of the 8
years it's been around and will probably return again.
Here are some pics from the Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5k:

I'm hidden behind the ARMY guys. They were close by all throughout the run. |

Checking my phone to verify I stopped the clock. |

Got to see this little one throughout the run. His running partner was rucking it. Impressive! |
I am not a fan of pics but they are a good reminder of work still to be done. MCM 2019
