Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5k

Marathon training is going slow but progressing. Having some knee pain but other than that have been fairly healthy so far in the training. Not losing weight though so I need to do something about that. I know my running will improve if I can drop some pounds.

During my training, I have completed 2 races. Both were 5k's with another 5-6 miles to run after. Realized after the 2nd time, this probably isn't a good strategy so if I do any more races prior to Marine Corps Marathon, I won't be trying to complete my long run on the same day. I am running the Patriots Run on 9/11 but that will be my long run for the week and I hope to put in a good effort on that day as a gage to see where I am at in prep for the MCM. Ran the Will You Walk With Me For Suicide Prevention 5k on 6/29/19. It was terribly hot (had been all week) and I ran really slow knowing I needed to do another 5 miles after. The Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5k went a little better. I hadn't intended to push but apparently did the first mile as it's the fastest mile I have completed in a while (11:04). Ended up slowing quite a bit the 3rd mile but was overall happy with the run especially knowing I had 6 more miles to go after. Those 6 miles hurt and were much slower than the 5k pace. Oh well, lesson learned. I enjoy the Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5k. It's for a great cause. I've completed it 3 out of the 8 years it's been around and will probably return again.

Here are some pics from the Spencer C Duncan Make It Count 5k:

Team RWB!

I'm hidden behind the ARMY guys. They were close by all throughout the run.

Checking my phone to verify I stopped the clock.

Got to see this little one throughout the run. His running partner was rucking it. Impressive!

I am not a fan of pics but they are a good reminder of work still to be done. MCM 2019

Four on the Fourth Run

Completed the Four on the 4th run on July 4, 2014. Completed it in 43:58 which is 10:59 pace. I didn't try to push it. Was glad to be under 11:00 pace without knowing my pace the entire run (there were no clocks on the course). I didn't decide to run it until the day before. Thought it would be nice to run on Ward Parkway again. Used to run that road a lot when I ran cross country in high school. While I'll never run as fast as I did while in high school it was still fun to run familiar roads from long ago again.

Nice patriotic race bib. and what more appropriate shirt to wear for this race?

Me heading up the last hill before the finish.

Almost there...

Gun time is shown in the pic. Chip time was 43:58.

Tech shirt and medal.

Gah... I hate seeing pics of me running! I really hope to drop some extra pounds and look more like a runner again! Mileage is going up this week in preparation for Chicago marathon. Surely my weight will go the opposite direction? Getting old sucks! It's harder to keep the pounds off. I never was a skinny minny but I wouldn't mind dropping about 10-15 lbs...
